You don’t need to know the technical terms. Here’s what the choices mean, and where each can work well. We’ll check the right approach for your project before confirming price and timing.
FDM or resin?
FDM · filament printing
Detail
More visible layer lines and less fine detail than resin.
Colour
Single or multiple filament colours printed into the model. No hand painting.
Strength & use
Our usual choice for practical, everyday parts where durability matters.
Cost & preparation
Generally a simpler workflow and lower cost for typical practical jobs.
A real multicolour FDM figure from the studio. Colours are printed in filament, not hand-painted.
Resin · fine-detail printing
Detail
Very fine detail and a smoother surface, especially for faces and miniature features.
Colour
Single resin colour as printed in our studio. Multicolour finishes are hand-painted.
Strength & use
Standard display resins are more brittle: best for figures and display pieces, not the default for functional parts.
Cost & preparation
Resin generally costs more: washing, drying, UV post-curing and support cleanup. Preparation and hand painting add time and cost.

Strength depends on the material, model and print orientation. We check suitability for each project.
Choose by what it needs to do.
You don’t need to know the material names. Tell us where your print will be used and what it needs to cope with. We’ll help choose a suitable material and print setup.
Indoor display & everyday items (PLA)
Best for
Display pieces, organisers and low-wear indoor items.
Handling & strength
Rigid, but can be brittle when knocked or bent.
Heat & sun
Keep away from high heat and prolonged direct sun.
Moisture & outdoors
Best for indoor use. Tell us if the item will get wet or stay outside.
Tougher everyday parts (PETG)
Best for
Practical items that need to cope with handling and moisture.
Handling & strength
Generally tougher than standard PLA; the exact material, design and print setup still matter.
Heat & sun
Generally tolerates heat better than PLA. Sun exposure and temperature still need review.
Moisture & outdoors
Resists moisture and may suit outdoor use after review.
Worth knowing: Water-resistant material does not make a printed item watertight. Strength and durability also depend on the design, wall thickness, internal structure and direction of the printed layers. A finish or coating does not automatically make a part waterproof, sun-proof or food-safe.
Tell us about heat, water, direct sun, bending or repeated use. Material and colour availability are confirmed when we review your enquiry.
Our actual FDM printing setup. Colours are printed in filament, not painted on afterwards.
Hand-painted resin finishes
Our expanded studio paint wall. Paints and preparation supplies for bringing resin pieces to life by hand.
FDM colour comes from the filament. “Unpainted” means no hand painting, not that a print must be a single colour. You can request single-colour or multicolour filament printing. Colour availability and layout are checked with the model.
Resin parts before support removal and finishing.
For a hand-painted printed model, choose resin. Every resin option includes printing, washing and curing. Prepared adds sanding, filling and priming. Hand-painting includes that preparation before the paintwork.
Painting a figure or kit you already own is a separate enquiry. Its material, condition and existing finish need review first.

Practical prints and parts are normally made using FDM (filament) printing. It offers a cost-effective way to make everyday parts, with the material and print setup chosen to suit the job. Resin printing is available on request where fine detail or a smoother finish matters, subject to checking suitability for the intended use.
Bring your own 3D model, or share a dimensioned sketch, drawing or plan for geometric, CAD-style design help. Include measurements with units, reference photos, what the part needs to fit and how it will be used. Tell us about any loads, heat, outdoor exposure or moving parts.
Geometric modelling is different from organic sculpting, which is not offered as a general design service. Fit and feasibility are reviewed before work is accepted. Safety-critical, medical, protective and load-bearing parts remain outside this service.
A photo, made in coloured layers.
Turn a favourite photo into a textured picture, 3D printed in layers of coloured filament. This is a shallow, picture-style artwork, not a fully sculpted 3D person or object and not a backlit lithophane.
This option is FDM only, with no hand painting. Share your photo, preferred size and a colour direction: black and white, warm, cool, bold or a custom palette. These are preferences, not fixed presets. Available filaments, image detail and the process affect the result, so colours and details may differ from the original photo or your screen.

A real person, digitised into a 3D model and printed in multiple colours.Real pets, digitised into 3D models, printed and painted in our studio. Meet the real pets and their figures ↗
Share a photo or reference for an AI-assisted 3D interpretation. A collectible-toy look, expressive cartoon character, portrait bust or blocky character can be a useful starting point. Style choices are preferences to discuss, not guaranteed presets.
AI interpretation can change likeness, details and proportions. It is not an exact reproduction of the person, pet or object in the reference. We’ll review a model preview with you before confirming the print, then check the geometry and preparation needed for printing.
FDM or resin may suit the design. Choose resin if you would like optional hand painting. A bold pop-art colour treatment is a separate colour preference, not a particular body shape. You need permission to use the photograph and any likeness.
This creative route is separate from dimensioned, geometric design for a functional part.
